Choose options
Painted between about 1890 and 1892, Portrait of Two Girls (Portrait de deux fillettes) draws a pair of young girls close together in an intimate, tender composition. Renoir renders them in the warm rose, cream, and soft auburn tones of his mature period, set against a loosely brushed green ground that lets the figures glow with broken color and gentle light. Studies of children and young women were central to Renoir's work of the early 1890s, where he pursued a softened, classical grace within the Impressionist idiom. The painting hangs today at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris and stands as a luminous example of his late figural art.
