Poppy Field in a Hollow near Giverny (Champ de coquelicots dans un creux, près de Giverny), painted by Claude Monet in 1885 captures a sunlit dip in the countryside near Monet's home, its slopes thick with wild grasses and a vivid band of red poppies spilling across the hollow's floor. Rolling green hills rise on either side beneath a soft blue sky, rendered in the quick, broken brushstrokes Monet used to catch the shimmer of midsummer light.
