Poppy Field, painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1890, depicts a vast field of vivid red poppies beneath a streaked blue-green sky, with a distant row of poplar trees anchoring the horizon. Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise during the final weeks of Van Gogh’s life, it belongs to a remarkable burst of nearly one hundred works he completed there in just nine weeks. The sweeping, almost abstract brushwork reflects the confident, mature style he had reached by 1890.
