London Coffee House, Philadelphia, 1770 by Benjamin Ridgeway Evans reconstructs the bustling southwest corner of Market and Front Streets, where the London Coffee House stood as colonial Philadelphia's leading gathering place for merchants, mariners, and newsmongers. Evans, a Philadelphia artist and architectural draftsman active in the second half of the nineteenth century, was known for his detailed watercolor studies documenting the city's vanished colonial-era buildings.
