Pathway Through Tall Grass, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir circa 1875, follows a narrow path climbing through a sunlit field of wildflowers and tall grasses, where a woman with a red parasol and a child pause on the track while two figures walk on ahead near the hilltop. The loose, vibrating brushwork and high-keyed palette of gold, rose, and green show the direct influence of Monet's contemporary poppy-field paintings on Renoir's own developing Impressionist style. The picture has belonged to the Musee d'Orsay in Paris since 1926, when it entered the collection as a gift through the Societe des Amis du Louvre, and remains one of Renoir's most celebrated early landscapes.
