Pasture in Bloom, painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1887, presents a dense tangle of wildflowers and tall grass rendered in short, energetic strokes of green, gold, and orange, the meadow filling the entire canvas with no horizon in sight. Painted in Paris during a period when Van Gogh was absorbing the lessons of Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism, the small work reflects his intense experimentation with colour and mark-making during his two years in the French capital. The close, almost abstract framing of the subject anticipates the bold compositional confidence of his later Arles landscapes.
