Painted in 1889 during his stay at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Vincent van Gogh's Olive Orchard captures the ancient silver-leaved olive trees of Provence in the swirling, intensely expressive brushwork and vivid colour contrasts of his most creatively fertile period.
