The Mulberry Tree, painted by Vincent van Gogh in October 1889, depicts a single gnarled mulberry tree ablaze with swirling gold and orange autumn foliage, its twisted trunk rooted in a bare, rocky hillside beneath a vivid blue sky. Painted at the Saint-Rémy asylum, Van Gogh considered it one of his finest works and completed it in a single day of intense concentration, channeling the full force of autumn color into a dense mass of curling brushstrokes. The painting’s blazing palette and rhythmic, almost musical brushwork make it one of the most exuberant landscapes of his final year.
