Abbey of Moyne, Killala, County Mayo, Ireland, c. 1841 by William Henry Bartlett depicts the ruined Franciscan friary's soaring square tower and roofless Gothic nave rising above the shores of Killala Bay, with grazing sheep and cattle on the surrounding hillside. Engraved by J. C. Armytage from Bartlett's drawing, the scene was published in The Scenery and Antiquities of Ireland, part of Bartlett's celebrated survey of Irish ruins and landscapes. Bartlett (English, 1809–1854) was one of the nineteenth century's foremost topographical illustrators, renowned for steel engravings documenting castles, abbeys, and antiquities across Europe, the Near East, and North America.

Artist: William Henry Bartlett (1809–1854). Date: c. 1841.
