The Artist’s Garden at Giverny (Le Jardin de l’Artiste à Giverny), painted by Claude Monet in 1900 presents diagonal rows of purple and pink irises in full bloom beneath a canopy of trees, with a glimpse of the artist’s pink-and-green house visible in the distance. Dappled sunlight filters through the overhanging branches, scattering warm and cool tones across the flower beds and the sandy path beside them. Painted when Monet was sixty and increasingly devoted to his garden as a subject, the work reflects the meticulous cultivation of Giverny that would soon lead him toward his famous water-lily series.
