Lightning Express Trains Leaving the Junction, by Currier & Ives This large folio lithograph depicts two night express trains racing side by side as they pull out of a busy rail junction, engines belching flame and smoke beneath a hazy sky while crowds look on. Currier & Ives, the preeminent American print publishing firm of the 19th century, issued the design — created by artist Frances Flora Bond Palmer — as one of its most celebrated railroad scenes.
Artist: Currier & Ives (design by Frances Flora Bond Palmer). Date: 1863.
