Light and Shadow, by Franklin Carmichael depicts the La Cloche hills of northern Ontario, where rolling stone ridges cast deep shadow across a mirror-still lake beneath a wind-swept sky. Carmichael (1890–1945) was a Canadian painter and founding member of the Group of Seven, celebrated for his boldly patterned, light-driven landscapes of the Canadian Shield.
