Landscape with Willows and Sun Shining Through the Clouds, drawn by Vincent van Gogh in 1884, shows a line of pollarded willow trees along a flat, waterlogged meadow near Nuenen, their bare, gnarled crowns silhouetted beneath a pale sun breaking through banked clouds. Worked in pen and ink with dense cross-hatching over chalk, the sketch belongs to van Gogh's early Dutch period and reflects the tonal realism and Hague School influence that shaped his formative years before Paris.
