Landscape at Les Collettes, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1910, presents the ancient olive groves and terraced Mediterranean garden of the artist's estate at Cagnes-sur-Mer in the warm, golden palette of his late southern period. Renoir purchased Les Collettes in 1907 specifically to save its centuries-old olive trees from being cut down, and moved there permanently the following year as advancing rheumatoid arthritis made the warm climate a necessity. The property's olives, terraced hillside, and views toward the surrounding hills became a recurring subject of his final, richly colored body of landscape work.
