Landscape in La Roche-Guyon, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1887, captures the Seine valley near the village of La Roche-Guyon, where Renoir and his family spent the summer of 1886, working not far from where Claude Monet was painting in the neighboring town of Giverny during these same years. The village, known for its dramatic white chalk cliffs and its chateau perched high above the river, gave Renoir a richly atmospheric subject rendered here in the warm, harmonious palette of his mature Impressionist style. The picture is among the most fully realized of Renoir's landscape studies from this Seine valley period.
Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841-1919). Date: 1887.
Landscape in La Roche-Guyon, 1887 (Paysage à La Roche-Guyon) by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Seine Valley Wall Art Canvas Print.
A note on this reproduction: this print renders in a deeper, moodier palette, with darker, richer greens and more shadow through the foliage. A brighter, more luminous reproduction of this same painting is also available in our collection.
