Jewish Wedding in Morocco, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1875, is his free reinterpretation of Eugène Delacroix's celebrated 1841 painting of the same title, commissioned by the industrialist and Delacroix collector Jean Dollfus. Set in a sunlit Moroccan courtyard, the composition shows musicians playing tambourine and stringed instruments while a dancer gestures before a seated crowd in richly patterned robes and turbans. Renoir, a devoted admirer of Delacroix, translated the older master's Romantic drama into his own warmer, more luminous Impressionist palette rather than producing a literal copy.

Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841-1919). Date: 1875.
