Je Ne Fume Que Le Nil, by Leonetto Cappiello shows a bold white elephant striding forward in a flowing orange cloak, its trunk curling skyward as if exhaling the brand's name in smoke. Cappiello (1875–1942), the Italian-born poster artist credited with modernizing early 20th-century advertising, created this design in 1912 for the French paper mill Joseph Bardou & Fils, using a single dramatic figure against a plain ground to make the image instantly readable at a distance.
