Irises, Detail (Les Iris), painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1889, presents a closely framed view of the dense iris bed from Van Gogh's celebrated Saint-Rémy composition, spanning the blue-violet blooms, a single white iris, and the tangle of green foliage and marigolds behind them, with the lower soil border cropped away to draw the eye more tightly into the flowers themselves. Painted within his first week at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum, the full composition is now held at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and remains one of the most admired floral paintings in Western art. This tighter framing keeps the dense rhythm of the iris bed at the center of the view while preserving the painting's characteristic color and structure.
