Interior of a Restaurant in Arles, painted by Vincent van Gogh in late August 1888, depicts rows of neatly laid dining tables and bentwood chairs inside a restaurant near his Yellow House studio in Arles, with wine carafes and bottles arranged in the foreground and diners gathered further back beneath warm ochre walls. Van Gogh rendered the room in the vivid yellows and greens characteristic of his mature Arles period, one of two studies he made of this restaurant interior (the companion work is Interior of the Restaurant Carrel in Arles). The painting went unmentioned in his surviving letters, and scholars have dated it from internal evidence, including the blossoming sunflowers visible in the scene.
