Houses of Parliament, Sunset, painted by Claude Monet in 1902, captures the silhouette of the Palace of Westminster dissolving into the Thames fog beneath a blazing sky of violet, orange, and gold. Painted from a terrace at St Thomas's Hospital during his extended London campaigns, the work belongs to Monet's celebrated series depicting the same view dozens of times under changing conditions of fog, light, and season. The Houses of Parliament series is now regarded among the most visually radical paintings of his late career.
