Painted in 1905, shortly before he purchased the Les Collettes estate, Pierre-Auguste Renoir's House at Cagnes captures the warm ochre architecture and lush Mediterranean vegetation of the hilltop village of Cagnes-sur-Mer in the richly glowing palette of his late southern period. Cagnes was Renoir's final home, and the village and its surrounding landscape became the subject of an entire late body of work in which his palette grew ever warmer and more concentrated with the brilliance of the Provençal sun. A sumptuously warm and atmospherically beautiful work for any interior drawn to the late Renoir.
