Hornbills, by T. W. Wood Three hornbills gather on a branch, their oversized curved bills and distinctive casques rendered in fine engraved linework against a soft cross-hatched sky. Thomas W. Wood (English, 1833-1882) was a celebrated Victorian zoological illustrator whose precise engravings appeared in major 19th-century natural history works, including Charles Darwin's The Descent of Man and Alfred Russel Wallace's The Malay Archipelago.
