Holy Land, River Jordan captures a quiet bend in the river as it winds through the arid hill country of the Middle East, with a lone Bedouin figure resting along the bank and distant hills rising beyond the reeds. The image reflects the photochrome process popular from the 1890s through the early 1900s, in which black-and-white photographs were hand-tinted through a lithographic printing technique to produce richly colored, photograph-like views for the tourist and collector market.
