Haystacks, by Claude Monet A towering haystack anchors a sunlit Giverny meadow, two small figures resting in its shade while a second, smaller stack and a line of poplars recede toward a pale, breezy sky. Painted several years before the famous 1890-91 grainstack series, the canvas already shows Monet returning again and again to the same simple rural motif.
