Grove of Olive Trees, painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1889 was painted during his stay at the Saint-Paul asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, showing gnarled olive trees rising from vividly colored, sun-baked earth rendered in swirling, rhythmic brushwork. It belongs to a series of at least fifteen olive grove canvases he painted that year, in which he found a symbol of endurance and quiet resilience. The painting reflects the intense color and energetic mark-making that define his final, most productive period.
