Green Wheat Fields, Auvers, painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1890, depicts a close, sweeping view of young green wheat rippling across the Auvers plain beneath a vast, wind-swept sky of swirling clouds. Painted during his final months at Auvers-sur-Oise, Van Gogh used dense, curling brushstrokes to convey both the vitality of the growing crop and the restless energy of the weather above; the canvas is now held in the National Gallery of Art, Washington. The work reflects the artist's late Post-Impressionist vision, in which an ordinary rural subject becomes a vehicle for intense feeling.
