Girl Reading, by Pierre-Auguste Renoir depicts a young woman in a vivid orange puff-sleeved dress seated in an armchair, absorbed in the small book she holds before green and gold curtains. By 1890 Renoir (French, 1841-1919) had moved toward a fuller, more solidly modeled treatment of the figure, and this intimate interior is held in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
