Garden at Arles (Jardin Fleuri), painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1888 captures a sun-warmed corner of Provence, its diagonal path cutting through dense beds of orange, yellow, and blue blossoms toward a row of dark cypress trees. Van Gogh worked in small, controlled dabs of pure color, echoing the Pointillist technique he was experimenting with that summer in Arles. The painting belongs to a series of garden studies he made during his most prolific months in the south of France, treating the ordinary flower bed as a subject worthy of his fullest attention.
