Fishing in Spring, the Pont de Clichy, Asnières, painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1887 shows a lone angler in a blue-hulled boat beneath the iron bridge spanning the Seine, near Asnières where Van Gogh often painted alongside Paul Signac after encountering the Impressionists and Pointillists in Paris. Rendered in short, vivid dashes of yellow, lavender, and green, the painting marks the moment his palette brightened decisively, setting the course for the radiant color of his move south to Arles the following year.
