Fight Between a Tiger and a Buffalo, by Henri Rousseau depicts a snarling tiger locked in combat with a buffalo amid dense, imagined tropical foliage hung with pale fruit. One of Rousseau’s largest and most ambitious jungle scenes, it was completed shortly before its 1908 debut at the Salon des Indépendants, exemplifying the self-taught “Le Douanier's” singular naïve style.
