Eastern Point, by Winslow Homer depicts surf bursting into billowing white spray on either side of a sunlit, lichen-streaked rock ledge at Prout's Neck, Maine. Homer (1836-1910), widely regarded as America's foremost painter of the sea, spent his final decades on this stretch of Maine coastline, translating its raw Atlantic weather into some of the most powerful marine paintings in American art.
Artist: Winslow Homer (1836-1910). Date: 1900.
