Corner of the Garden at Montgeron, painted by Claude Monet in 1876 depicts a sunlit bed of dahlias and other flowers bordering a still pond, framed by tall trees at the edge of a country estate. The canvas was one of several large decorative panels Monet painted for the Château de Rottembourg, the Montgeron property of his patron and friend Ernest Hoschedé. Today the painting is held in the Hermitage Museum, a vivid record of the dappled brushwork Monet developed for garden subjects during the formative years of Impressionism.
