Charing Cross Bridge (Le Pont de Charing Cross) by Claude Monet

Charing Cross Bridge, painted by Claude Monet, belongs to the celebrated Thames series the artist pursued during his extended London stays between 1899 and 1901, working from a window of the Savoy Hotel overlooking the river. Rendered in soft blues, violets, and golds, the canvas dissolves the iron railway bridge and a lone boat into the drifting London fog, an atmospheric effect Monet returned to more often in this view than in his other London motifs. Paintings from this series are now held in museums including the Musée d’Orsay, the National Gallery of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
Artist: Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926).
