Central Park, The Drive, by Currier & Ives depicts fashionable New Yorkers strolling, riding on horseback, and touring by carriage along the park’s main promenade, with autumn-tinted trees and a distant city building framing the scene. Nathaniel Currier and James Merritt Ives ran the most prolific American lithography firm of the 19th century, publishing thousands of hand-colored prints from their New York studio that shaped the popular image of American life.
