Carrickfergus Castle, County Antrim, Ireland, c. 1841, by William Henry Bartlett depicts the Norman fortress rising above the harbor at Carrickfergus on the shore of Belfast Lough, Northern Ireland, with fishing boats and townsfolk gathered at the water's edge below its walls. Bartlett was an English topographical illustrator (1809–1854) celebrated for his steel-engraved views of the British Isles, continental Europe, and the Holy Land, published in travel annuals such as The Scenery and Antiquities of Ireland.
