The Bleachery at Scheveningen, painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1882 depicts a cloth-bleaching field near the North Sea coast at Scheveningen, with lengths of fabric laid out to whiten in the sun and small figures at work among the dunes and rooftops of the town beyond. Painted in watercolor during his early months in The Hague, the muted greys, greens, and beiges reflect the influence of the Hague School and Van Gogh’s close observation of everyday rural industry. A historically significant early work that reveals the foundations of his later career.
