Blackfoot Horseman, by Karl Bodmer, depicts a Blackfoot man in fringed hide dress riding a pale gray horse near Fort McKenzie, Montana, with a second mounted figure visible through the smoke and dust behind him. Bodmer was a Swiss-French artist (1809-1893) who documented the American West and Native American life during the 1832-34 expedition he joined as illustrator to Prince Maximilian of Wied, and this aquatint numbers among the most recognized plates from that expedition's published record.
