Birds with Strange Beaks, by R.B. Davis gathers a company of coastal birds at the water's edge: a great white pelican grips a catch of fish in its bill atop a rocky outcrop while two brown pelicans wheel overhead, a rose-pink roseate spoonbill wades beside a wing-spread pelican, and a pair of black-and-white avocets probe the shallows. Davis (1907–1998) was a British illustrator who spent decades as a leading wildlife artist for the children's magazines Treasure and Look and Learn, painting this piece for Treasure's 1972 annual.
