Antibes Seen from the Salis Gardens, painted by Claude Monet in 1888 frames the medieval town of Antibes and the snow-capped Alpes-Maritimes beyond a windswept pine tree, viewed from the elevated gardens of La Salis across the bay. Monet made this view repeatedly during his four-month stay on the Côte d’Azur in 1888, drawn to the brilliant turquoise light and the dramatic silhouette of the tree against the distant town.
