College of the City of New York Gate, 1905, New York City This black-and-white photograph captures the Gothic Revival gatehouse framing the Convent Avenue entrance to the College of the City of New York (now CCNY) in Hamilton Heights, its ornate stone archway opening onto the newly built quadrangle of towers and terracotta-trimmed halls. Designed by architect George B. Post and completed in the early 1900s, the campus was built from dark Manhattan schist quarried on site, giving its buildings their distinctive glittering façades.
