From Renoir's mature decades of figural painting, The Nude in the Grass reclines a softly modeled bather amid sunlit foliage, her warm rose-pink flesh tones glowing against the green and umber of the landscape. The composition unfolds in pearl, rose, ochre, and verdant green, animated by the velvety, fused brushwork Renoir developed for his late nudes — a manner indebted to Titian, Rubens, and the great Renaissance figural tradition.
