The Houses of Parliament, Sun Breaking Through the Fog (Le Parlement, trouée de soleil dans le brouillard), painted by Claude Monet in 1904 dissolves the Gothic silhouette of Westminster into a mauve apparition rising from the Thames, Victoria Tower looming tall through the haze. An orange sun burns a glowing gap in the fog and scatters molten gold and coral reflections across the shimmering river below. The canvas, now in the Musée d’Orsay, belongs to the celebrated London series Monet began from St Thomas’ Hospital around 1900 and finished in his Giverny studio.
