The Harbour at Trouville (Le Port de Trouville), painted by Claude Monet in 1870 looks down the harbor channel at low tide, where fishing boats with russet sails glide between the long wooden jetties. Anglers cast their lines from the wet sand in the foreground while strollers dot the pier beneath a vast, silvery Channel sky. Painted during Monet’s summer at Trouville just before he fled to London in the Franco-Prussian War, this luminous harbor view now hangs in the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest.
