Sugar Bowl and Red Peppers, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir around 1905, arranges a blue-and-white porcelain sugar bowl among scattered red and green bell peppers on a loosely draped white tablecloth. Renoir sets the cool white-and-blue porcelain against the warm red and ochre of the peppers, a favorite contrast in his later still lifes, rendered in soft, feathered brushwork bathed in violet-grey light. The everyday kitchen subject receives the same tender attention Renoir gave his portraits and bathers in this period.

Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841-1919). Date: c.1905.

Sugar Bowl and Red Peppers, 1905 (Nature Morte avec un Sucrier et des Poivrons Rouges) by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Kitchen Still Life Canvas Print.

A note on this reproduction: this print renders in a brighter, more golden-orange warmth, with lighter overall tone across the peppers and tablecloth. A deeper, richer-red reproduction of this same painting is also available in our collection.
