The Seine at Argenteuil, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, shows two fashionably dressed women in a bright orange skiff pulling up beside a wooden landing dock on the Seine, where a small black dog waits at the water's edge and a moored sailboat's mast rises at left. Rendered in loose, sunlit Impressionist brushwork with warm river reflections set against cool blues, the painting captures the leisure boating culture of Argenteuil that Renoir and his fellow Impressionists returned to throughout the 1870s and 1880s.
