Poppy Field (Champ de coquelicots), painted by Claude Monet during his Giverny years spreads a shimmering pink haze of poppies across the foreground, broken only by a cluster of tall slender poplars rising right of center. Behind them a band of summer trees gives way to soft blue and violet hills beneath a sky of rose tinted clouds. The canvas belongs to Monet’s poppy field paintings of the Giverny countryside and now hangs in the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg.
Artist: Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926).
