Poplars near Nuenen, painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1885, depicts a row of tall poplar trees lining a rural lane, rendered in the somber browns and greens characteristic of his early Dutch work. Small figures walk the path beneath the trees, giving a sense of scale and daily life to the rural Brabant scene. Painted toward the end of his stay in Nuenen, the work marks a transitional moment just before Van Gogh left for the brighter palette he would adopt in Paris.
