Palm Trees at Bordighera (Palmiers à Bordighera), painted by Claude Monet in 1884 gathers a crown of date palms on a hillside above the Ligurian coast, with the hazy blue Alps of the French border rising across the Bay of Ventimiglia. Rendered here in soft violets, sea greens and glints of golden light, the fronds seem to vibrate against the pale, misty sky. The picture belongs to the group of canvases Monet brought back from his three-month stay at Bordighera in early 1884, his first great campaign on the Mediterranean.
