The Seine at Argenteuil (La Seine à Argenteuil), 1875 by Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Size:12x9"

The Seine at Argenteuil, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1875, frames a quiet stretch of river through a veil of willow branches and streamside brush, with a small house glimpsed on the far bank through fragments of blue and lavender water. Rather than an open panorama, Renoir chose an intimate, half-hidden view of the riverbank near Argenteuil, dissolving the dappled foliage into loose strokes of gold and green. The painting reflects his growing fascination, alongside Monet, with using natural screens of leaves and branches to fracture and filter light within a landscape.

Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841-1919). Date: 1875.

The Seine at Argenteuil (La Seine à Argenteuil), 1875 by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Impressionist River Wall Art Canvas Print.

A note on this reproduction: this print renders in warmer, softer tones, with golden-brown highlights along the riverbank and paler, more muted lavender-grey reflections in the water beneath the willow branches. A cooler, more saturated reproduction of this same painting is also available in our collection.
