Fruit with Cup and Saucer, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir around 1913 gathers a blue-and-white porcelain cup and saucer beside a small bunch of bananas and a cluster of leafy oranges, set against a warm, loosely brushed ochre-and-russet ground. Painted during Renoir’s late years at his Cagnes-sur-Mer estate, the work’s thick, confident strokes and glowing warm palette reflect the increasingly tactile, sensuous style he developed even as arthritis limited his mobility. Modest domestic still lifes like this one let Renoir continue exploring color and light on a small, manageable scale in his final decade of work.
